About the magazine

Stranger’s Guide, a travel publication that explores the power of place-based journalism to break down stereotypes and foster global citizenship, was founded in 2018 by Editor in Chief Kira Brunner Don and Publisher Abby Rapoport. Stranger’s Guide includes print guides, newsletters, and carefully-selected products and partnerships.

Based in Texas and California, the magazine commissions stories from local writers and photographers to build authentic portraits of a place. Stranger’s Guide‘s work has been featured in the Best American Travel Writing collection, and the magazine has won two National Magazine Awards in General Excellence and Photography. Stranger’s Guide is distributed at Barnes & Noble, Whole Foods, independent bookstores, and through partnerships with organizations from Bogotá to Lagos.
